The GTA | Gaming Technologies Association welcomes today’s announcement from the NSW Government regarding its package of gaming reforms.

The industry has been eagerly awaiting the NSW Government’s response to the Independent Panel on Gaming Reform’s Report (the Panel), and GTA Members support the NSW Government’s decision to provide a road map that includes further measures to support responsible electronic gaming machine (EGM) play.

In particular, the GTA welcomes the NSW Government’s clear commitment to rolling out account-based play, including the move to transition the state’s EGM fleet to a two-way protocol.

The development of technical standards to guide voluntary account-based play solutions will give GTA members the certainty needed to continue to deliver world-leading responsible gaming technology solutions for the NSW market.

As a Member of the NSW Government’s Independent Panel on Gaming Reform, the GTA has advised the NSW Government on the technology considerations and requirements of gaming reform, and GTA Members have been, and continue to be, key participants in account-based EGM trials right across the state.

GTA Members have been integral in the progression of gaming reform in New South Wales, dating back to at least the first account-based gaming technology trials in 2022 and 2023, which were established at their instigation as part of Liquor & Gaming NSW’s Regulatory Sandbox process.

This commitment to gaming reform from GTA Members also extended to their support of, and participation in, the account-based gaming trial in 2024, and the allocation of significant financial and human resources in excess of $25 million to develop and road test new technologies to support responsible EGM play, many of which were exhibited and positively received last fortnight at AGE | Australasian Gaming Expo 2026.

Beyond New South Wales, the GTA and its Members are working with each State and Territory Gaming Regulator, across Australia, to implement what are some of the most progressive and advanced measures in the world to support responsible EGM play providing stringent oversight, and a strong safety net for gaming players.

GTA CEO Jinesh Patel, said the NSW Government announcement provided the industry with greater regulatory clarity and certainty, while allowing EGM players the freedom to decide how best to manage their responsible play.

“Today’s announcement is a significant step forward on the path towards a modern and responsibly regulated environment for electronic gaming machines (EGMs).

“GTA Members fully support reforms that strengthen responsible EGM play, while remaining flexible and workable for technology providers and venues to determine how best to implement approved measures.

“It’s in this spirit that the GTA and its Members will continue to progress the NSW Government’s gaming reforms, which includes GTA Members working with their customers to support the adoption of new measures designed to achieve everyone’s objective – responsible EGM play,” Mr Patel said.
